Looking and Seeing: Contemporary Art

This introductory course will look at questions such as When is Contemporary Art? When does Contemporary Art originate? How is it defined and who are the artists making this type of work? These ideas along with a number of questions from the group will be explored. This class will include one or two trips to look at Contemporary Art in Denver and locally.

Date: Saturdays, March 24 - April 21


Time: 1:00 - 2:30 pm (exception of the Denver field trip day which will run longer to include travel time)


Cost: $100 Member | $125 Non-Member

* Fee includes all classes. Students may not sign up for individual days. Registration and withdraw deadline is Wednesday, March 21.

Meet the Instructor:

Jennie Kiessling was born and raised in Chicago, she arrived to the West in 2000. She planned to live here after making her first trip in 1980. The West was then and now the greatest physical influence for making her work.

Jennie's work is in private collections, shown locally, nationally and has been published by Phaidon Press. She is the recipient of NEA and NEH grants. Her graduate work was completed at the University of Chicago; and undergraduate work completed at School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).

She served as Assistant Director for the Division of Continuing Studies (SAIC) and Cultural Enrichment Manager for the Chicago Park District. Jennie has taught for the Art Education Department of School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Art Depts. of Colorado State University, the University of Wyoming and Naropa University.  After serving as Lead Faculty for Visual and Media Arts in CADHu (Department of Creative Arts Design and Humanities) at Front Range Community College in Ft. Collins, Colorado, she returned to work as an adjunct faculty member.
